The Life And Times Of The Glen Innes SSAA

The Glen Innes Branch of the Sporting Shooters Association was formed in 2009, due to the efforts of a small group of shooting enthusiasts who wanted to promote and enjoy the various disciplines that are covered by the SSAA banner.

We particularly looked forward to competing in Combined Services Rifle matches, but due to Range restrictions, we were until recently, unable to shoot this discipline. Thanks to the generosity of SSAA NSW, we have been able to modify the Emmaville Rifle Range to enable us to enjoy this style of shooting.

We now offer a range of shooting events and competitions for members and visitors to enjoy, which you can find out more about on pages under our ‘What’s On’ link in the menu above. Our Branch particularly boasts a strong and ever-growing pistol club, and the range that we utilise is equipped with a modern automatic targeting system, which makes our pistol days even more enjoyable.

The Branch holds an annual Anzac Day shoot in April, and an Armistice Day shoot in November using original service rifles, with all proceeds from the day being donated to the local Legacy Branch, and the day’s winner having his or her name engraved on a memorial shield.

Our shooting activities are carried out at the Emmaville Rifle Range Complex, (See Contacts page for map) which is on a Crown Lands lease, and is administered by a committee made up of one representative from each of the four member clubs. In recent times, grants from various funding bodies have allowed us to improve the amenity of the range, eg. by connection to grid electricity. Our current main project involves the installation of more turning targets on the main pistol range, setting up a dedicated Practical Pistol range and working towards having a clubhouse built. (Clubhouse is now built and awaiting power connection.)

We extend an invitation and welcome to any and all like-minded shooters who would like to visit us to enjoy our wonderful sport.
