Practical Pistol

Second Saturday of the month. 9:30 - 10:30AM Sign-on. Emmaville Rifle Range.

About This shoot

Practical Pistol is a SSAA pistol discipline new to Glen Inness SSAA, and has a developing following amongst the membership.

A 9:30 sign-on is followed by four ‘courses of fire’ which are set by the designers of the shoot. This means the competitors fire from differing positions including from behind and through barriers, with the targets in varied positions also. All members who shoot the discipline are invited to propose the design of the courses.

Shooters are timed in completion of a course. The scoring for the competitor is then worked out by dividing their target score by the time taken to shoot the course. So the faster the targets are ‘well shot’ the better. This pistol discipline is said then to be all about ‘power speed and accuracy’!

While ammunition loads in State, National and International competitions are scrutinised to meet a specific ‘power factor’, at our club level this is a matter of trust. Pistols can be shot with red dot sights in the Open Gun Class, and normal open sights in the in Standard Division. Holster courses are available to members to allow shooting in these events.

The Emmaville pistol and rifle range facility now has a a partially built third range, which will be used by Practical Pistol shooters once construction is finalised. This will allow more permanent installations of targets, and other course of fire equipment, which will add to the enjoyment of those members shooting this exciting event.
